Team Results
Varsity Golf Team Synopsis
The 2008 TJ Varsity Golf Team was coached by John Myers and assisted by Luke Frels. The team competed in both the Bruin and Cougar Invitational in August to prepare for a tough Liberty District schedule.
The team finished the season with an overall record of 5-3. The team was led by seniors, Stefan Kowalski and Ben Choi. Coach Myers played a variety of lineups to get many of the underclassmen experience on the links. This strategy proved valuable as their game improved and their scores dropped as the season progressed.
The TJ golf team finished sixth in the District Tournament at Herndon Centennial Golf Course. The team wishes best to Stefan (4-year starter) and Ben (2-year starter) as they move onto college. With the leadership of juniors Matt Callahan and Alex McGlothlin, TJ looks towards August 1st, 2009.
We had a good nucleus of underclassmen, led by Michael Serron, Daniel Kang, Jared Klein and Meghan Anand. As the lone female on the team Meghan Anand gained much experience that allowed her to also compete on the girls' team and qualify for the State Tournament, played after the Boys' season was over.
The team has developed an experienced group of younger players who will represent Jefferson well next year.
TJ Girls Golf Post Season
During the regular season, TJ girls golf beat Marshall 166-176, and lost to Stuart 164-162. Victoria Saadat and Meghan Anand qualified for regionals, and Meghan qualified for states.
At the VHSL Girls Open at Williamsburg National on October 27/28, Meghan shot a two-day 181 to tie for 43rd in a field of 80 girls from across Virginia.
TJ defeats South Lakes
The golf team defeated South Lakes at Reston National on Tuesday (9/9), 170 to 196. The four low scores that added up to victory were supplied by: Ben Choi, Stefan Kowalski, Matt Callahan, Joel Heck, and Jared Klein.
Madison bests TJ
The golf team lost to district rival, Madison, 150 to 174 on September 8. Low scores for TJ were turned in by Ben Choi, and Stefan Kowalski.
McLean beats TJ
On Wednesday, September 3, the golf team lost to McLean, 161 to 168. The low four scores for the Colonials were: Stefan Kowalski, Ben Choi, Matt Callahan, and Daniel Kang.
TJ beats Stuart and Stone Bridge
[September 3, 2008] TJ's golf team has already played in two tournaments and has had two matches, winning both over Stuart and Liberty District rival, Stone Bridge.
