Johnny represented W&J in 18 matches at 141 and 149 pounds for the Presidents. Johnny also made the Dean's List for first semester and has been inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the honor society for first year college students. Early February Update

In January, the wrestling team held 5 dual meets at TJ, defeating Dominion (54-22), Washington & Lee (60-19) and West Springfield (63-18), and losing to Edison (55-24) & Stone Bridge (39-27). On the road, the team competed in the Hopewell Duals, with a close 36-33 victory over Hopewell. In the Woodberry Super Quad Meet, the team defeated Randolph Macon Academy, Collegiate, and Fork Union Military Academy, and lost to host Woodberry Forest in the final match. At the Liberty District Quad Meet, the team lost to Langley (67-9) and Woodson (46-36), but defeated South Lakes (60-18) and host Marshall (41-39). JV Districts will be held at Madison HS on Feb 5th, and varsity Districts will be at Langley HS on Feb 8th/9th. Regionals will be held at Fairfax HS on Feb 15th /16th and States will be the following weekend in Chesapeake, VA.

Mid-Season Summary

The TJ Varsity wrestling team competed against 32 public and private schools in the NOVA Classic, finishing in 21st place, ahead of Liberty District rivals Marshall, Madison, and South Lakes. Captains James McConnaughey and Mike Howard medaled; McConnaughey pinned four opponents to take 3rd place and Howard went 3-1 to take 2nd place.

The team then competed in the tough Warwick Tournament (Lititz, PA), which was the first time any TJ wrestling squad has participated in a Pennsylvania tournament! Five TJ wrestlers took home 3rd place medals: Matt Becker, Mike Howard, James McConnaughey, Devan Samant and Alex Shmorhun.

The JV wrestlers have all recorded wins at December's Regional Jamborees. In another "first," the JV team competed against local Varsity teams at the Bishop Ireton tournament, with Sam Zhang just missing the medal round by one match.

The wrestlers look forward to honoring our seniors, Mike Dunn, James McConnaughey, Nishad Samant, and Evan Wilson at Senior Night on Wednesday January 23, as the team competes against West Springfield and Edison. Come out and cheer on the team in their last home meet.
