Girls are No. 2 in Virginia
TJ's Girls played hard and well against perennial power and defending State Champion Mills Godwin (Richmond) but came up short in Newport News on Saturday morning.
Girls Tennis in State Final
TJ's Girls Tennis prevailed 5-0 over Loudoun Valley to earn a spot in the VHSL State Final on Saturday Morning.
Girls Tennis Through To State Semi-Finals
The 2008 TJ Girls Tennis Team easily defeated First Colonial High School of Virginia Beach in the first round of the AAA State Tennis Tournament on Tuesday May 27 at TJ's "home" courts (Mason District Park). Playing "best of 3" sets, TJ won at No. 2 (Leila Lam 6-0, 6-1); No. 3 (Stephanie Pao 6-0, 6-0); No. 4 (Nora Lam 6-1, 6-3); No. 5 (Meliha Skaljic 6-1, 6-3); and No. 6 (Jennifer Fang 6-0, 6-0). In a tough contest at No. 1, TJ's Natalie Kirchner dropped the first set but was "on serve" in the second when play was stopped (first team with five (of 9) contest wins is Match winner, no further play is necessary).
The Team will travel to Newport News for a Semi-Final at Noon on Friday, May 30, 2008.
Liberty District Champions
The Jefferson Colonials Girls' Tennis Team had an outstanding season in the Liberty District. We WON the District Championship and start team regionals next week. Natalie Kirchner and Nora Lam also advance to the individual regional tournament in doubles. We look forward to achieving glorious things in the post season.
