End of Regular Season
The Varsity finished the regular season in third place in the Liberty District with a 3-2-1 record. Their overall record of 4-6-2 included 5 overtime games.
The JV Team ended the season with a stunning 1-0 victory over a tough Langley team. Their record of 7-1-4 were the most victories posted in recent memory. The defense allowed two goals the entire season and no shots on goal in several games.
TJ vs Langley 10/12/07
Varsity: Langley finished an undefeated regular season beating the Colonials 2-0. While TJ's play at times was good, Langley was stronger and faster to the ball with excellent passing. TJ had scoring opportunities as Langley pressured the defense for most of the game.
JV: JV finished off their season with a 1-0 defeat of Langley. Krissy Brant scored for the Colonials. Again, the Colonial defense held strong and allowed no shots on goal by the Saxons. The JV's final record was 7-1-4.
TJ vs. Robinson 10/09/07
Varsity: A fast paced, exciting contest that went to double overtime. Unfortunately, on Senior night, Robinson won 3-2. Robinson scored first with a shot early in the first half. TJ answered a few moments later with a goal by Allison Smedberg that was assisted by Kate Cooper. Robinson then went ahead again 2-1 on another well struck goal. The contest was tied up when Jessica Ungerleider scored a few moments later. Lillian Aoki had 2 goal line saves in regulation to help send the game into overtime. Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie. The first overtime saw both teams have opportunities to score but neither team could capitalize. Robinson scored on quick goal about 2 minutes into the second overtime that was set up with a nice cross into the penalty circle.
JV: The contest was dominated by TJ from the start. Two goals were scored in the first half by Kate Zurowski and Stephanie Lockhart and a third goal was added by April Hyon in the second half. The Colonials didn't allow Robinson's offense any opportunity to advance the ball into the scoring circle. A complete game was played by TJ both offensively and defensively.
TJ vs. McLean 10/05/07
Varsity: The Colonials scored early in the game on a goal by Susan Clark. Bobbie Pelham-Webb followed with a goal a few minutes later as TJ kept the ball in the offensive end for much of the half. McLean got a goal back on a miscue by the defense, but the Colonials answered with another goal by Bobbie Pelham-Webb to go ahead 3-1.
JV: The contest ended in 0-0 tie. TJ's defense didn't allow McLean any shots on goal. The Colonials had several chances to score but were unable to finish any of their scoring opportunities.
TJ vs. Madison 10/02/07
Varsity: TJ scored early in the first half on a goal by Megan Zurowski. Madison had the ball in the offensive half for much of the game but was unable to score because the Colonial defense played exceptionally well. Late in the second half the TJ offense started to control the ball and the contest ended with a 1-0 victory for the Colonials.
JV: TJ won 1- 0 on a goal scored by Emily Kehne in the first half. The TJ defense was strong again not allowing Madison many opportunities to score. Madison made a late push to score but the Colonial defense held firm.
TJ vs. Marshall 9/26/07
Varsity: A 0-0 tie in double overtime. Marshall's goalkeeper had numerous saves and played exceptionally well. The 60 minutes of regular play went back and forth with one team then the other controlling the tempo. TJ's scoring chances were turned away by the Marshall defense time and again. In overtime, TJ's offense dominated possession but couldn't finish against Marshall's defense. TJ had 20 penalty corners and Marshall had 12.
JV: TJ and Marshall played to a scoreless tie. The Colonials dictated play for much of the contest but the Statesmen defense held. In the second half especially, TJ had opportunities to score but the Marshall defense, led by fine play by their goalkeeper, kept TJ from scoring.
TJ vs. Woodson 9/24/07
Varsity: TJ fell behind Woodson 2-0 and was unable to rally. Woodson came out strong in the first half, constantly pressuring TJ's defense and finally scoring late in the first half. The second half was a more even contest. However the Colonials were unable to convert their scoring chances while the Cavaliers capitalized on their opportunity and scored a second goal to secure the win.
JV: The game was scoreless in the first half. The Colonials came out fired up in the second half and put tremendous pressure on the Cavalier defense, obtaining multiple corners. The go ahead goal was scored by Allison Smedberg midway through the half. TJ then held off a late series of attacks by Woodson to secure the victory.
TJ vs. Chantilly 9/20/07
Varsity: An exciting 2-1 double overtime victory for the Colonials. TJ took the lead early in the first half with a goal by Susan Clark. The tempo was controlled by the Colonials for much of the game but Chantilly evened the score as time was running out in the second half. In the first overtime, the Chargers dominated possession but the Colonial defense led by Katie Sourbeer turned away the Chargers attack time and again. The winning goal was scored by Lauren Wendlberger on a textbook sequence with the ball cleared from the defensive end, picked up and passed out by Megan Zurowski. Lauren then took the pass for a breakaway and scored the goal beating the Chantilly goalie with a beautiful shot.
JV: TJ won the game 1-0. Allison Smedberg scored for TJ early in the first half and the Colonials kept Chantilly on the defensive much of the contest. Yet again, TJ's defense was strong and didn't allow Chantilly many scoring opportunities.
TJ vs. South Lakes 9/18/07
Varsity: The Colonials started district play with a convincing 7-0 win against South Lakes. Bobbie Pelham-Webb, Susan Clark, Emma Fuller and Megan Zurowski all scored for the Colonials.
JV: Kate Zurowski, Allison Smedberg, Allie Brouckman and Erin Corey all scored in a game dominated by TJ 7-0. TJ kept the ball in the offensive half almost the entire game.
TJ vs. West Springfield 9/10/07
Varsity: A back and forth contest ended in a 0-0 tie. The game was stopped with just over 5 minutes to play due to lightning.
JV: The Colonials dominated play throughout the game but had to come from behind to tie the contest. West Springfield scored on a breakaway goal in the 2nd half to go up 1-0. TJ tied the game as time was running out with a goal by Allison Smedberg. TJ had 25 corners in the game.
TJ vs. Centreville 9/07/07
Varsity: Centreville won in double overtime 3-2 in a game that was well played by both teams. Lauren Wendlberger and Jessica Ungerleider each scored goals for the Colonials.
JV: The Colonials lost 1-0. Centreville scored in the first half and the Colonials were unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities throughout the game.
TJ vs Fairfax 8/28/07
Varsity: The Lady Rebels scored two goals in the first half. TJ outshot Fairfax but was unable to convert on their scoring chances. (Fairfax 2, TJ 0)
JV: Kate Zurowski scored for the Colonials in the 1st half. Good defense shut down the Lady Rebels attack. (TJ 1, Fairfax 0)
TJ vs. South County 8/30/07
Varsity: A tough loss in overtime. Megan Zurowski scored for TJ in the first half. South County evened the score in the second half and won in overtime. The Colonials dictated play for much of the game and outshot South County 22-3 (South County 2, TJ 1 in overtime)
JV: A defensive struggle ended in a 0-0 tie after regulation. (TJ 0, South County 0)
