Team Results

Congratulations

Washington Post named the Fall 2007 All-Met Teams. TJ athletes mentioned include:

All-region cross country athletes:

Brian Landry received All-State honors — he finished 4th in the state in cross country.

TJ Boys Win State Championship

The Boys' Cross Country team won the Virginia State Championship with 91 points on Saturday, ahead of 2nd place Midlothian (101 pts), and 3rd place Mountain View (106 pts). Brian Landry led the TJ runners with his fourth place finish (15:28), earning All-State Honors. Senior Evan Heflin was next in 17th place and following close behind was Brian Davenport in 18th place. The other scorers for TJ were Aaron Bernstein in 35th place and Alex Witko in 47th.

This State Championship caps a season in which the TJ Colonials won the Liberty District Championships with a perfect score of 15 points and Northern Region Championships with the lowest score in at least the last 10 years. It also marks the 6th consecutive year that the TJ boys have placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the state and the 3rd State Championship in that time. Coach Matt Ryan deserves much of the credit for that amazing record and for making TJ cross country one of the finest programs in the state.

Lisa Junta took 8th place (18:17), Connor Fleming 12th (18:21), and Alison Underwood 13th (18:21). The rest of the girls' team also deserve congratulations for helping the team win the Liberty District Championships and advance to Regionals: Stephanie Marzen 39th pl, Ronit Malka 72nd, Ariel Schwartz 79th and Neesha Schnepf 93rd. You all had a great season!

TJ Cross Country Season Off to Fast Start

The TJ Cross Country season got off to a great start on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the first meet of the season – the Frank Keyser Invitational in Boonsboro, MD – where the Girls Varsity and JV and the Boys JV teams all won their 3-mile races! The Boys Varsity team earned 2nd place just one point behind Potomac Falls High School.

Both girls and boys 2007 Cross Country teams welcomed large numbers of new runners from the class of 2011. Eighteen freshmen girls (largest recruiting class in recent memory) and 13 freshmen boys have bolstered the ranks of Jefferson's fleet-footed distance running teams. Traditionally one of TJ's marquee sports, the girls and boys XC teams have a history of success at the 5 kilometer race. The boys XC team has been District champion for the past six years and State champs in 2002 and 2004. The girls were District champions in 2005 and runners-up last year.
