Team Results
State Wrestling Meet – February 23, 2007
The first TJ wrestler to reach the Virginia State Wrestling Championships since 2001, sophomore Mike Howard lost in the first round to senior Kevin Chapman (Fauquier HS), who is currently ranked 2nd in Virginia and 24th in the US. Mike won his second round match against junior Kieyon Nash (Varina HS), but was eliminated by junior Josh Gillis (Hickory HS) in the third round by a close 7-4 decision. Ironically, three years ago, Gillis and Howard wrestled each other in the semifinals of the Virginia Middle School State Championships.
Liberty District and Northern Regional Championships
TJ wrestling had four wrestlers place at districts. They include Liberty District Champion Mike Howard,, James McConnnaughey in second place and both in fourth place, Senior co-captains Johnny Sando and Drew Pyrak. All four represented TJ at the Regional competition. There James McConnaughey placed sixth and Mike Howard placed second. Mike will go on to compete in the State Championship at Robinson High School the last weekend in February.
December 23, 2006 Stuart Holiday Classic
The TJ wrestling team won the Stuart Holiday Classic tournament. This is Jefferson's second tournament win in as many weeks. Twelve wrestlers from Jefferson medalled, including three champions – Mike Howard, James McConnaughey, and Mike Dunn. Mike Howard was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament.

December 16, 2006 Bishop Ireton Holiday Classic
On Saturday, December 16, TJ's wrestling team won the Bishop Ireton Holiday Classic, upsetting by just a few points the second place team from Paul VI. The finalists in the tournmant include fourth place finishers Ted Cho and AshleyMiller. Finishing with 3rd place medals were Alex Shmorhun, Devan Samant, and Sean Cruz. Winning the tournament championship were Mike Howard, Johnny Sando, and James McConnaughey.
December 13, 2006 at West Potomac
TJ wrestling scored a big district win against Stone Bridge on Wednesday, December 13th. The final score was 43-36. Contributing to the win with pins (worth 6 points each) were Freshman Devan Samant, Sophomore Mike Howard, Senior Ted Cho, and Junior James McConnaughey.
Later that same night, TJ dropped a heartbreakingly close match to West Potomac by a score of 42-36. Contributing with scoring pins were Freshman Ashley (aka XRay) Miller, Mike Howard, James McConnaughey, Junior Evan Wilson, and Senior Mike Mensing.
December 8 & 9, 2006 Nova Classic
TJ wrestling had a great tournament at the NOVA Classic this past weekend. This tournament is a very tough 32 team tournament that features a number of the top Virginia teams. TJ took 17th place this year, the highest finish in around 10 years and up 8 places from last year. Three TJ grapplers came home with medals. They include Mike Howard at 3rd place, Johnny Sando at 6th place and James McConnaughey at 7th place. Congratulations to all who competed this weekend!

December 6, 2006 at Wakefield
The TJ wrestling team beat Wakefield by a score of 70-12. Scoring pins for TJ were Mike Howard, Sean Cruz, Johnny Sando, and Mike Dunn. In his first varsity match, Devan Samant won by major decision.
