7 Dec The TJ Swim & Dive Team won big against Oakton in the first meet of the season. The boy's team won by a score of 205-109. The girl's team won with a score of 170 to Oakton's 145.

8 Dec The TJ Swim & Dive Teams continued their winning ways in the second meet of the season against Herndon. The TJ boys team won by a score of 190-125. The girls team won with a score of 184 to Herndon's 130.

21 Dec The TJ Swim & Dive Teams continued undefeated in the third meet of the season against Centreville, winning 23 of 24 events. The TJ boys team won by a score of 227-79. The girls team won with a score of 207 to Centreville's 107.

04 Jan The TJ Swim & Dive Teams remained undefeated in the fourth meet of the season against South Lakes. The TJ boys team won by a score of 188 to 137. The girls team, helped by a strong performance in diving, won with a score of 161 to 154.

11 Jan Both TJ Swim & Dive Teams remain undefeated after the fifth meet of the season against Chantilly. The TJ boys team won by a score of 219 to 86. The girls team won with a score of 206 to Chantilly's 109.

18 Jan With a one non-district meet remaining, both TJ Swim & Dive Teams finished Concorde District competition with 6-0 records after the meet against Westfield. The TJ boys team won by a score of 199 to 115. The girls team won with a score of 211 to Westfield's 103.

25 Jan Both TJ Swim & Dive Teams finished dual meet competition with 7-0 records after the meet against Fairfax. The TJ boys team won by a score of 219 to 82. The girls team won with a score of 199 to Fairfax's 111.

02 Feb District Meet
The Jefferson Swim/Dive team won BIG at the Concorde District Championship Meet. The boys team won with 469.5 points to runner-up Herndon's 371. The girls team won with 451 points to runner-up Oakton's 350. School and Concorde District records were set in the girls 100 yard freestyle, and school records were set in the girls 200 yard freestyle and girls 400 yard freestyle relay.

6-9 Feb Regional Meet
The Jefferson Swim/Dive teams swept the team titles at the Northern Region Championship Meet. The boys team won with 298.5 points to runner-up Annandale's 217.5. The girls team won with 317 points to runner-up South Lakes' 196. School records were set by the TJ girls in diving, 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard backstroke, 200 yard medley relay, 200 yard freestyle relay, and 400 yard freestyle relay. School records were also set by the TJ boys in 50 freestyle, 200 yard medley relay, and 200 yard freestyle relay.

Jefferson Sweeps

Jefferson made history as a team, sweeping the team titles. It was the first time one school won both titles since W.T. Woodson did it in 1987, and the girls ended Langley's streak of four consecutive championships. The Colonials' boys, defending regional champions, scored 298.50 points, ahead of second-place Annandale (217.50), and the girls won with 317 points to runner-up South Lakes' 196. The Seahawks took second with just four girls competing.
"Our kids are amazing," Jefferson Coach Melissa Stefan said. "Ninety-five percent of them swam their best times tonight."
Jefferson freshman Jenny Basel won the 200 individual medley (2:07.55) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.41), and senior teammate Katie Doggett won the 100 backstroke in a state-record 57.17. The Colonials also captured the 200 girls' medley relay title. Jefferson's boys won the 200 freestyle relay -- their only first-place finish of the night.

15-16 Feb - State Championship Meet
The Jefferson Swim/Dive teams swept the team titles at the Virginia AAA State Championship Meet. The boys team won with 187 points to runner-up Menchville's 185. The girls team won with 259 points to runner-up South Lakes' 151. State championships were captured by the girls in 200 yard freestyle relay, 200 yard individual medley, 100 yard backstroke, and 100 yard breaststroke, and by the boys in the 200 yard medley relay and 200 yard freestyle relay. Senior Katie Doggett's victory in the girls 100 yard backstroke established a new state record as well as breaking her own school record. Other school records were set by the TJ girls in 200 yard individual medley, 200 yard freestyle relay, and 400 yard freestyle relay. School records were also set by the TJ boys in 50 freestyle, 100 yard butterfly, and 200 yard medley relay.

Washington Post All-Met Honors

The TJ Swimming/Diving teams received recognition with the Washington Post announcing its All-Met teams for 2001-02. Katie Doggett and Emily Verdin were named to the First Team, Jenny Basel was named to the Second Team, and Chris Mudd and Michael Balint received Honorable Mention. Coach Melissa Stefan was named Coach of the Year.
